Oh, how these sweet boys have stollen my heart! J has been bugging me for weeks to look at my old camera collection and today we finally sat down together to learn how they work. His first photography lesson at 4 years old! He had so many questions and was completely fascinated by all the moving parts and how the camera took pictures. I showed him how you can change the size of the aperture (opening) by changing the f-stop lever and how you can control how long the shutter stays open by changing the speed and pressing the release. I showed him how to load the film and how the camera creates a picture on the film by letting light in through the aperture. These old cameras are so awesome to learn the basics on because their parts are so large and you can really see how it all works together. I taught him how to turn the knobs to focus using my Starbucks cup and a miniature bowling pin set out on different planes on the kitchen table. And he melted my heart when he said he was going to help me take wedding pictures when he got big one day with such a proud look on his face. Before it was over, he had us posing for pictures and he continued carrying one of the old cameras around all morning "taking pictures" of O pretending to be a real photographer mimicking some of the things I say to them when I take their pictures. O always has to do everything big brother does, so as soon as J was examining the old cameras, of course, O had to take a turn, too! I love seeing their curiosity and watching them mirror my love of photography. All the feels today!!

Encourage curiosity in your kids! It always seems like too much trouble to get things out and let them explore, but it's amazing to watch them go and watch them grow :) It's always worth it!
